25 Days – Book 14: ABC Is For Christmas

ABC is for Christmas is our 14th book for the Christmas Book Advent journey. This is a Golden Book classic from 1974, written by Jane Werner Watson and illustrated beautifully by Sally Augustiny.

Seemingly a simple ABC Christmas book at first glance, this book is so much more! The text rhymes, the pictures are joyous and celebratory, and the style of the 70s shines in all its vintage glory.

What Is Dr. Seuss’ Source Of Inspiration?

“This is the most asked question of any successful author. Most authors will not disclose their source for fear that other, less successful authors will chisel in on their territory. However, I am willing to take that chance. I get all my ideas in Switzerland, near the Forka Pass. There is a little town called Gletch, and two thousand feet up above Gletch there is a smaller hamlet called Uber Gletch. I go there on the fourth of August every summer to get my cuckoo clock repaired. While the cuckoo is in the hospital, I wander around and talk to the people in the streets. They are very strange people, and I get my ideas from them.”

25 Days – Book 12: Madeline’s Christmas

12.12.12, a memorable day. And our 12th book is a lovely classic, Madeline’s Christmas, created by Ludwig Bemelmans in 1956.

As with all the Madeline books, this Christmas edition is delightful. All the occupants of the school are ill, except for the littlest which was Madeline. As she nursed the sick and cared for the house, a carpet seller—who was also a magician—appears and sells Madeline 12 red rugs to warm the girls’ feet in the cold mornings.

25 Days – Book 11: Harold At The North Pole

The 11th story of our 25 days is one of the marvelous books in the Harold and the Purple Crayon “series,” Harold at the North Pole. It is by Crockett Johnson and was created in 1957.

You don’t have to be familiar with the original Harold and the Purple Crayon book to appreciate this tale; but if you are, you’ll love it all the more! In this adventure, Harold sets off to find a Christmas tree to decorate before Santa arrives and ends up at the North Pole where Santa is snowed in and needs help.
