25 Days – Book 24: The Night Before Christmas (Reid)

Now it is truly the night before Christmas, and so I bring the last of the illustrated books in our countdown bearing such a name by Clement C. Moore. I have saved a new favorite for last, as I was astounded to find it and behold its amazing clay illustrations. Allow me to show you The Night Before Christmas by Clement C. Moore, illustrations by Barbara Reid, 2013.

25 Days – Book 15: A Letter For Bear

Today’s Christmas Advent book is a gorgeously illustrated tale imported from the UK. I have been waiting for a while to see this one, and I dearly love it. The colors, the characters, the mind-blowing hand-lettering – you’ll fall in love with this bear too. Here is A Letter For Bear by David Lucas, 2013.

Let’s Read Three: Art Museum Books

One of the many things I already love about city living is the many museums that surround us. We have visited three art museums so far and are anxiously discussing and planning our next available days to visit more. I am overjoyed to pass on our love of art to our daughters and what better tool to aid that endeavor than gorgeous picture books that celebrate and discuss art museums! Have a look at three picture books that revel in the joys, etiquette, mystery and adventure that comes with visiting an art museum.

Book Review: Brief Thief By Escoffier & Di Giacomo

I am in desperate need to declare book review bankruptcy. I have so many books that I am aching to share, and yet life with two little ones in a new city refuses to calm down enough for me to do much more than tread water. That’s when I need a good laugh and thankfully books like this one get me every time. Allow me to introduce you to one of my surprise-favorite books from last year. A story about a chameleon and underwear. That’s right. This book does not shy from some not-so-subtle potty humor and I guarantee you’ll love it. This was one of my grand finale books at my final storytime back in Tennessee and I can honestly say that this book just knocks your socks off with hilarity. Even the older siblings who were hanging around in the next aisle because they were “too old for storytime” eventually were sitting in the back glued to the story with a silly grin on their face. Take a humor break from whatever has you racing and relax in the pages of Brief Thief by Michaël Escoffier and Kris Di Giacomo, 2013.

Book Review: Big Snow By Jonathan Bean

Waiting is a tricky part of life and especially childhood. There are so many exciting things that occur but almost all of them come with a waiting period: birthdays, Christmas, first day of school, a trip somewhere, and even a snowstorm! I’ve been longing to write about this book ever since it crossed my path during the Cybils evaluations and today seems like the perfect day. The forecast called for snow today, but most of us here in the South tend to just roll our eyes and not dare hold our breath. We did get a spit of snow, but it melted faster than it came. But, that waiting to see if the forecast would hold true, that is the essence of this book. Here is Big Snow by Jonathan Bean, 2013.
