Book Review: Knuffle Bunny By Mo Willems

First up, Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale, by the fantastic Mr. Mo Willems. (According to the author whom I met a few years ago, you are supposed to pronounce the “k” like “ku-nuffle.”)

Book Review: Leaves By David Ezra Stein

This is a sweet little book called Leaves, by David Ezra Stein. My copy is a small board book, which I particularly love for this story. The book is very simple, with sparse text, and is very enjoyable to read and admire. I find myself reaching for this one often as I read to our young daughter.

Book Review: Toot & Puddle You Are My Sunshine By Holly Hobbie

Sometimes a bad mood finds you. It is hard to explain, but the day just doesn’t feel right and finding a smile is incredibly difficult. This happens to everyone, but adults are usually better at realizing it, understanding it, and working it out. For children, moods and emotions are tough to master. This is where books like Toot & Puddle You Are My Sunshine come in. This book is part of a series about two pigs named Toot and Puddle by author/illustrator Holly Hobbie.

Book Review: Petunia By Roger Duvoisin

Considering I’ve mentioned this book three times here already, it is appropriate that it is my first “official” book review. Petunia by Roger Duvoisin (pronounced “dyoo-vwah-zah”) was written in 1950 and was Duvoisin’s 14th book as far as I can tell. His career as an author and illustrator is immense. By my count, he wrote and illustrated 42 books and illustrated around 127 by other authors. His first book, A Little Boy Was Drawing, was published in 1932 and didn’t receive much attention. But thankfully, a kind editor encouraged him to continue and we now have a myriad of brilliant books to cherish. He received the Caldecott medal in 1948 for White Snow, Bright Snow and the Caldecott Honor in 1966 for Hide and Seek Fog both of which were written by Alvin Tresselt.

Book Trailer: Peggy By Anna Walker

A lovely new book by Melbourne author/illustrator Anna Walker. Book is set to come out in September in Australia. No word on if and when it will be released in the US. For now, we can just admire the beautiful illustrations in this book trailer.

Storytime & The Incredible Book Eating Boy

A new adventure started today with “Mrs. Caryn” leading storytime at Union Ave Books in downtown Knoxville. It was great fun and we had an excellent turnout. Surprisingly, none of the children had read our featured book which was The Incredible Book Eating Boy by Oliver Jeffers.
