Today I bring another very favorite from this year. A book in rhyme that feels like a gift. A book that encourages and equips. A book for a laugh and comfort. A book for when you need to take a risk or act on a big dream; or when you are just thinking about a risk or a dream. A book that gives you that soft landing and the assurance for coming home. Book Review: When’s My Birthday? By Fogliano & Robinson
Once again, Christian Robinson’s illustrations have stolen my attention and heart. I’ve had my eye on this book coming out since the first illustration hints I saw on Robinson’s Instagram. The beautiful (but stinky!) Bradford Pear trees are almost at full-bloom on my street and it is almost impossible to be anywhere near the outdoors and not hear the hopeful chirping of the birds in the trees. My featured book for today is most likely being celebrated on many lists as it is very new and still on many bookstore shelves, but I swoon over this book and feel the need to add my own praise into the masses. So here we have a book all about that long, somewhat dreadful, but oh so beautiful wait for the world to turn from brown to green. Here is And Then It’s Spring by Julie Fogliano, illustrated by Erin E. Stead, 2012.

Notable Children’s Picture Books From 2012
Or perhaps this post should be called the books I noticed and loved in 2012, as this is definitely not an all-inclusive list of the great books that came out last year. Whatever the title, I feel it necessary and enjoyable to point out a few of my favorite children’s books that 2012 offered. Some I’ve reviewed and will link to, and a couple others I intend on reviewing more in depth in the next few weeks. So here we go – 15 books to enjoy from 2012.
