One of the many things I already love about city living is the many museums that surround us. We have visited three art museums so far and are anxiously discussing and planning our next available days to visit more. I am overjoyed to pass on our love of art to our daughters and what better tool to aid that endeavor than gorgeous picture books that celebrate and discuss art museums! Have a look at three picture books that revel in the joys, etiquette, mystery and adventure that comes with visiting an art museum.

Children’s Picture Books For Back To School, 2013
Believe it or not, August is here and that can mean only one thing: back-to-school themes are everywhere! I wouldn’t normally call myself a follower, but I openly admit to loving the back-to-school time of year. Those store sections suddenly packed with notebooks, pencils, backpacks, and the smell of Scotch Tape absolutely make me giddy. I’ve always felt this way. Getting my new school books each year was like a sort of Christmas in September. (Why on earth do schools start so early now?) Since I’m no longer in the mass of students and my child won’t be for a while either, I will celebrate the oncoming of the school year (and the hint of fall right behind!) by making lists of my favorite school-themed picture books, and inevitably buying a few school supplies for myself while I’m at it. You never know when you’ll need an awesome patterned folder or another pack of Sharpies!
Here is my 2013 list of fifteen picture books that center around school in some form and make me slightly nostalgic for those childhood schooldays.

I readily admit that after our last storytime, I’ve been on a bit of a dinosaur kick. I actually never went through a dinosaur phase as a child, at least that I can remember, so I’m just considering this my bound to come eventually moment. I’m also going to blame it on two books that recently came out, one by Willems last fall and Idle’s this spring, that were so overflowing with dino-awesomeness that they turned me onto the cretaceous creatures.
With my recent search for great dinosaur books, and the fact that I know dozens of children who can’t get enough of these (mostly) humongous creatures, I thought it fitting to make a list of my current favorite dino-themed picture books. As with all of my lists, this is not exhaustive. I’m sure there are many more amazing books about dinosaurs that I just haven’t found yet and I do hope that if you know of them, you’ll tell me in the comments! Here we have my current favorite dinosaur children’s picture books for that avid dino fan in your life (and it is totally ok if that is you): Continue reading “Dinosaur Children’s Picture Books To Devour”

Let’s Talk About Book Trailers
If you haven’t seen one yet, allow me to introduce you to book trailers. Here is my favorite picture book one for It’s a Book by Lane Smith.
In essence, a book trailer is a 30 second advertisement for an upcoming book. They can be longer, but as in TV advertisements, 30 seconds is the norm. Most picture book trailers include a few pages from the book – often with the illustrations lightly animated – some music, and perhaps someone narrating some of the text.
