Welcome 2021! I could make excuses for the silence in this space through 10 months of last year; but I think we all know what happened in 2020. Instead I am starting off the year with one of my favorite books from last year, an ode to celebrating our favorite things and focusing on what means the most to us – big and small. Have a look at this charming book: What I Like Most by Mary Murphy, illustrated by Zhu Cheng-Liang, 2019 (published in the U.S. in 2020).

Favorite New Picture Books 2019
December 1 has arrived! Wow. This year seems to have flown, and yet, it seems so long in many ways. Once again, the year has come and gone without a lot of posts. Also, per usual, my stack of new amazing picture books is gigantic. So many great books continue to be published and I never have enough time to talk about them all! I’m excited to bring back my new December series: Favorite New Picture Books of the year! Last year’s list was so fun to make and I heard from many people how helpful it was. Yay!

Happy first day of December! This year has flown by and very little blog posts have happened unfortunately. I have a massive stack of new releases that I have been so excited to share, and yet the days continue to go by and I haven’t shared any of them! If you’ve been around here for long, you know that I always do a Christmas picture book countdown until Christmas Day. Five years I’ve done this: 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017 (don’t ask what happened in 2016 – I don’t remember). That is 125 different Christmas books. Whew! While more and more Christmas books come out each year, I have tired a bit of always only sharing those. And really, how many more Christmas books can I collect! So I’m switching it up this year. In an effort to share all the wonderful new books that have come out this year (and possibly a couple from last year too), I’m doing a Favorite New Picture Book countdown instead!

Happy Valentine’s Day! It’s been a long quiet stretch here since Christmas Day. While I’m not one to collect many Valentine’s themed books, I couldn’t help but grab a few pictures of three of my favorite vintage Valentine books. These books are harder to find but you know I love a good trio, and these three are all quite different in their approach to this holiday. (I’ve been pondering a different format for posts on occasion, so bear with my as I try this square, quicker format today.) Let’s read three (vintage) books about Valentine’s Day!

It’s that time of year! I took a true holiday last year and didn’t do my usual 25 picture books countdown to Christmas. It was lovely to step away for a bit, but I’m ready. So here we go! I will do my best to keep each day short with just a quick post about the book and a picture or two.
And if you want to check out past years: 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015. Happy December 1!
Research: Picture Book Bedrooms
I have seriously missed blogging! I’m sorry for my consistent absence lately, but all free time is being poured into my book. Yay! The past couple weeks I have been working on background brainstorming for my characters and I needed some serious picture book bedroom inspiration. I filled Pinterest with some ideas, both illustrated and real, and then I realized… this is an excellent thing to post about. It gets the jumbled thoughts and observations from my head into written form and serves for a fun research project. This is in no way exhaustive, (though reading this post will be!) but simply includes every book I currently have on hand that I could immediately think of a bedroom that I liked for some reason or another. So here we go: great illustrated picture book bedrooms!
