Back quickly today, in an attempt to catch up this week on my book gift ideas; but also because this book is an excellent companion to book 3! A collection of 75 songs from Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood and The Children’s Corner, this vibrantly illustrated book is such a delight! Enjoy A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood with lyrics by Fred Rogers and illustrations by Luke Flowers, 2019.

2019 Favs – Book 3: You Are My Friend
It is apparently the year of Mister Rogers, and I’m completely OK with it. While the HBO documentary, Won’t You Be My Neighbor came out late last year, 2018; the newest Mister Rogers’ movie, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, arrived in theaters November 22 with Tom Hanks in the role of Mister Rogers. The picture book world is not be left out of a trend, and I’m so grateful it is following this one! I have two new picture books this year celebrating this wonderful man and the legacy of an amazing show he created. First up today is a sweet biography about Rogers from his childhood and some of the inspiration that led him to create his famous show. Take a peek at You Are My Friend by Aimee Reid, pictures by Matt Phelan, 2019.

If I had to choose a favorite from the year, this would be it. A story about a little girl’s pet tortoise and a seemingly impossible endeavor he undertakes. Be charmed by Truman by Jean Reidy, illustrated by Lucy Ruth Cummins, 2019.

I’m excited to bring back my new December series: Favorite New Picture Books of the year! Last year’s list was so fun to make and I heard from many people how helpful it was. Yay!

It is December 30 and I’m squeaking in my last of the 25 New Favorite Picture Books. Another new one from 2018, this is an interesting book to end the year on, but I love it for many different reasons. A book about the Apostle Paul and the many letters he wrote for the New Testament which, as the book claims, changed the world. Take a look at Paul Writes (a letter) by Chris Raschka, 2018.

The book for today is pure fun and joy. It is a delightful picture book/psuedo comic for bibliophiles. A story about an escaped evil inventor, troubled secret agents, and an undercover librarian who solves all the worlds problems with the perfect book at the perfect time. Check out Lyric McKerrigan, Secret Librarian by Jacob Sager Weinstein, illustrated by Vera Brosgol, 2018.
