Let’s Read Three: Chirri & Chirra Books!

A bit of a different post than the usual one book review, but bringing back my Let’s Read Three series for this picture book series about two little girls Chirri and Chirra who go on three different adventures with their bicycles and animal friends. Let’s read three Chirri & Chirra books by Kaya Doi, all translated from the Japanese by Yuki Kaneko.

Let’s Read Three: Robin Books!

Spring has apparently squashed my life, or at least my blogging ability. But, I am attempting to resurface with this silly trio about a little creature that has captured our attention the most this spring. Robins were one of the first things we noticed as spring hinted its arrival and they became a very delightful sight for my girls to point out every time one crossed our path in the busy city. They are such friendly birds with their bright orange tummies and spirited hopping about. Robins won’t let you ignore spring and all the changes it signals. So let’s read three books about robins!

Wordless Wednesday: Spring by Gerda Muller

Spring has arrived! (on this side of the world at least.) I have so many books to share and celebrate the new season, and I already feel woefully behind with sickness and other responsibilities keeping me from finishing posting. But here, I bring the first in a short, wordless, board book form. It is a delightful depiction of spring, beautiful for any to behold. Take a look at Spring by Gerda Muller, 1994.

Book Review: Goodnight Songs – A Celebration Of The Seasons By Margaret Wise Brown

Although books about the seasons are lovely reading any time of year, there is something about the coming of autumn and all the changes it brings that feels even more appropriate for reading about the seasons. Fall is my favorite season, but I am always willing to ponder the things to love about every season. And luckily, we have a gorgeous new book out this August that provides not only stunning imagery, but includes beautiful songs originally written by Margaret Wise Brown.

Let’s Read Three: Gardening Books

Perhaps this post is coming a little late in the game, but there is something about the anticipation of fall that has me once again paying attention to and thinking about gardens, plants, and typical Spring-type things. Which is kind of strange considering I am practically allergic to Spring and so far I seem to have a terrible black thumb. Even my succulents bit the dust after just a couple months of apartment living. But recently, I have had a lovely little basil pot survive and yield two batches of pesto thus far, so I am feeling more interested and encouraged about gardening, even in city life.

Before everything starts the beautiful process of dying and changing colors for my favorite season, allow me to share a (bit wordier) look at three books devoted to gardens, and more importantly, community. Let’s read three books about gardening!

Book Review: Circle of Seasons By Gerda Muller

Happy October everyone! While some are already whipping out the Halloween decorations with spooky creatures, carved pumpkins, spider webs and more; I plan on focusing a little more on fall. We’ll look at some great monstery type books as the end of the month nears.

For today though, I’m going to do something a little different with a book review and only focus on a portion of the book. I discovered this lovely little creation fairly recently and found the fall portion to be especially perfect for sharing. The rest of the book is excellent too, I promise, but let’s give fall its full due. Maybe sometime we’ll “circle” back for the others. So here we have a few pieces of the fall section from Circle of Seasons by Gerda Muller, 1995.
