25 Days – Book 7: Kangaroo For Christmas

My book for today is a gorgeous reprint of a 1962 fantastic story by James Flora. It is the tale of a large package from an uncle containing a lovely kangaroo that gets just a little too nervous and causes havoc for a little girl and her family. Catch the fun with Kangaroo For Christmas by James Flora, from 1962 and now 2011.

Book Review: Building Our House By Jonathan Bean

Seems like forever since I have done a book review, but this one has maintained a steady spot at the top of my favorites pile since I began this Cybils craziness. I readily admit, that I didn’t give it much thought when I heard and saw it coming out earlier this year, and now I’m making up for lost time. This is a sweet book about a little girl’s family working together to build their dream home and all the time and effort and love that makes up those walls. Here is Building Our House by Jonathan Bean, 2013.

Book Review: Maria Had a Little Llama/María Tenía Una Llamita by Angela Dominguez

I have been longing to post on this book for months now and here I am finally getting around to it. It officially hit the shelves in August, but I have been eagerly anticipating its arrival since April when Betsy Bird posted about it. I knew immediately this one would get me. A bilingual adaptation of the familiar nursery rhyme “Mary Had a Little Lamb” that is unique, culturally informative, and just plain stunning. Here is Maria Had a Little Llama/María Tenía Una Llamita by Angela Dominguez, 2013.

How To Remove Library Book Sale Plastic Sleeves

Let’s start off this post with a huge disclaimer. In no way am I suggesting or teaching how to steal library books and remove evidence of such criminal acts. This post is solely intended for fellow purchasers of library book sale discards that still have the plastic sleeves on them. Seriously, don’t steal books.

Book Review: And Then It’s Spring By Julie Fogliano & Erin E. Stead

It is officially the first day of spring and although many North American areas are being threatened by yet another forecast of snow, signs of spring are popping up everywhere. The beautiful (but stinky!) Bradford Pear trees are almost at full-bloom on my street and it is almost impossible to be anywhere near the outdoors and not hear the hopeful chirping of the birds in the trees. My featured book for today is most likely being celebrated on many lists as it is very new and still on many bookstore shelves, but I swoon over this book and feel the need to add my own praise into the masses. So here we have a book all about that long, somewhat dreadful, but oh so beautiful wait for the world to turn from brown to green. Here is And Then It’s Spring by Julie Fogliano, illustrated by Erin E. Stead, 2012.

Book Review: Along A Long Road By Frank Viva

Sometimes a book comes along that really just takes my breath away. Occasionally I’m prepared for it because it has intrigued me in some way by the reviews I’ve heard. Other times, I just feel my heart skip a little when I spy the cover. I open it wonderingly and wow, there it is. Such was the case with today’s book. Here is Along a Long Road by Frank Viva, 2011.
