25 Days – Book 19: The Polar Express

Before we look at today’s book, dear readers, you must do something. If you have seen the 2004 movie, The Polar Express, I need you to forget it. Erase it from your mind completely. Whether you liked the movie or not, you must pretend that you never saw it. This is very important for you to experience the real story, the book that is, which is quite different and ever so much more wonderful than the odd movie version. Forget it all.

Ok, now let’s talk about our book for day 19, The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg. This book was created in 1985 and it is magical. Yes, truly magical.

25 Days – Book 18: The Cowboy’s Christmas

I’m so excited about today’s book, The Cowboy’s Christmas by Joan Walsh Anglund. This is a sweet little book from 1972 and is the last in her pseudo series of four about The Brave Cowboy.

In this little book, there is a cowboy who is very busy (as is his invisible friend bear). Starting on December 1, the cowboy (and bear) are doing all sorts of holiday preparation including making things, wrapping gifts, and being especially polite.

25 Days – Book 15: Toot & Puddle, I’ll Be Home For Christmas

Day 15 and this is one of my favorite books and authors/illustrators: I’ll Be Home for Christmas by Holly Hobbie. Another in the Toot & Puddle series, this book brings you back to Woodcock Pocket with the two delightful pigs and their parrot, Tulip.

Christmas is coming and the adventurous Toot is away on one of his many world trips. Puddle keeps receiving messages that Toot promises to be home by Christmas, but the days continue to tick on while Puddle does as many preparations as he can while waiting.

25 Days – Book 12: Madeline’s Christmas

12.12.12, a memorable day. And our 12th book is a lovely classic, Madeline’s Christmas, created by Ludwig Bemelmans in 1956.

As with all the Madeline books, this Christmas edition is delightful. All the occupants of the school are ill, except for the littlest which was Madeline. As she nursed the sick and cared for the house, a carpet seller—who was also a magician—appears and sells Madeline 12 red rugs to warm the girls’ feet in the cold mornings.

25 Days – Book 11: Harold At The North Pole

The 11th story of our 25 days is one of the marvelous books in the Harold and the Purple Crayon “series,” Harold at the North Pole. It is by Crockett Johnson and was created in 1957.

You don’t have to be familiar with the original Harold and the Purple Crayon book to appreciate this tale; but if you are, you’ll love it all the more! In this adventure, Harold sets off to find a Christmas tree to decorate before Santa arrives and ends up at the North Pole where Santa is snowed in and needs help.

25 Days – Book 9: Mother Goose For Christmas

This is day 9 of our Christmas journey, and today we look at a story from 1972 by William Pene du Bois, Mother Goose for Christmas.

This is a Christmas Eve tale about misunderstandings, learning to be brave in sweet ways, and not jumping to conclusions—especially around the holidays!
