25 Days – Book 19: Barney Wigglesworth And The Smallest Christmas Pageant

Day 19 of our Christmas picture book countdown. We are so close to Christmas! Today I bring a book from the 80s, but it is new to me. I wanted this book so badly as a kid, but never got it. I don’t know if there were any other Barney Wigglesworth fans out there. That series is still one of my favorites from my childhood. We had mostly Christian themed books in our home and, as I’ve bemoaned before, they don’t tend to be very good quality. Barney Wigglesworth is one of the series that breaks that stereotype. There are four total in the series. I had three growing up and my children adore them now. This Christmas I determined to see if I could find an inexpensive copy of that elusive fourth which just so happens to be the Christmas one. So here it is! Barney Wigglesworth and the Smallest Christmas Pageant by Elspeth Campbell Murphy, illustrated by Yakovetic, 1988.

Book Review: Cookie’s Week By Cindy Ward & Tomie dePaola

Today’s book is a sweet little gem from the 1980s that just so happened to be one of my all-time favorites when I was little. It generally seems to be true that most little girls go through a love of cats phase. I certainly did, despite my severe allergies, and this hilarious, short, and clever book about a spunky little cat was just the treat for me. Here is Cookie’s Week by Cindy Ward, illustrated by Tomie dePaola, 1988.

25 Days – Book 20: Clifford’s Christmas

Our 20th book for this Christmas book list is another childhood favorite of mine. Oh how I loved the Clifford books! So we must celebrate the coming holiday with the big red dog in Clifford’s Christmas, created in 1984 by Norman Bridwell.

In this Christmas edition of the classic Clifford stories, Emily Elizabeth starts off the holiday season at Thanksgiving when Santa ends the Thanksgiving Day Parade.

25 Days – Book 17: A Star In The Pasture

Day 17 and we have another of my favorite books from my childhood, A Star in the Pasture, by Katherine Zwers and John Tobin, and illustrated by Carol Heyer. This book was created in 1988 and really was one of my favorites as a child.

This is a story of a little star on a big mission who falls from the sky and is cared for by a lowly shepherd and his pet lamb.
