Three days until Christmas and four books to go for the picture book countdown. Today’s book is one that I spied at a conference early this year and have been so excited to see it come out. Though I must admit, it isn’t really the story that I was excited about it, but more the illustrations. I’m sure that comes as a surprise to no one. This is a book about Santa from birth to how he grew to become the famed Santa Claus. Here is When Santa Was a Baby by Linda Bailey, illustrated by Geneviève Godbout, 2015.

For today’s book in the countdown to Christmas, I have yet another new Christmas book for the pile. Check out Click, Clack, Ho! Ho! Ho! by Doreen Cronin, illustrated by Betsy Lewin, 2015.

Today for the Christmas countdown I bring a picture book that is unlike any Christmas picture book I have ever seen. It is new. It is bold. It is about ninjas. It has a snowball fight. And it is epic. Another thrilling new book for the year, here is Samurai Santa by Rubin Pingk, 2015.

Day 14 and I bring to you a brand new book from the creators of a couple of bestsellers. I honestly haven’t looked through the earlier books in this pseudo-series, but I grabbed this one after hearing about it and I have to say, we are captivated by it. It is the story of a young girl living in the far, far north who discovers an abandoned reindeer, cares for it, loves it, and then must do everything she can to grant its biggest wish. This is The Reindeer Wish by Lori Evert, photographs by Per Breiehagen, 2015.

We are eight days into the Christmas countdown and it is time for a little humor. Earlier this fall I got a note from author Joan Holub, excited to share about her Christmas book coming soon. I am a fan of Joan Holub’s writing so I happily obliged to take a look. I was delighted to receive a copy from her (with an awesome signature too!), and I was even more thrilled when the book turned out excellent. It is indeed a Christmas story, patterned loosely after the famed Christmas Eve poem I post so many books about, with a hilarious twist of clueless knights and a determined Santa. Tickle your funny bone this Christmas with The Knights Before Christmas by Joan Holub, illustrated by Scott Magoon, 2015.
