25 Days – Book 18: The Cowboy’s Christmas

I’m so excited about today’s book, The Cowboy’s Christmas by Joan Walsh Anglund. This is a sweet little book from 1972 and is the last in her pseudo series of four about The Brave Cowboy.

In this little book, there is a cowboy who is very busy (as is his invisible friend bear). Starting on December 1, the cowboy (and bear) are doing all sorts of holiday preparation including making things, wrapping gifts, and being especially polite.

25 Days – Book 17: A Star In The Pasture

Day 17 and we have another of my favorite books from my childhood, A Star in the Pasture, by Katherine Zwers and John Tobin, and illustrated by Carol Heyer. This book was created in 1988 and really was one of my favorites as a child.

This is a story of a little star on a big mission who falls from the sky and is cared for by a lowly shepherd and his pet lamb.

25 Days – Book 16: Nine Days To Christmas

Day 16 and there are nine days until Christmas! So today, we read a special book from 1959 by Marie Hall Ets and Aurora Labastida called Nine Days to Christmas. It is a story of Mexico and of a little girl’s posada which is one of the special parties given on the nine nights before Christmas.

This tale is about 5 year old Ceci, who is now old enough for her very first posada. The entire town will participate and there will be delicious things to eat and songs to sing and traditional dress to wear. But best of all, Ceci will get her very own piñata to fill with special treats and have all the children try to break in celebration.

25 Days – Book 15: Toot & Puddle, I’ll Be Home For Christmas

Day 15 and this is one of my favorite books and authors/illustrators: I’ll Be Home for Christmas by Holly Hobbie. Another in the Toot & Puddle series, this book brings you back to Woodcock Pocket with the two delightful pigs and their parrot, Tulip.

Christmas is coming and the adventurous Toot is away on one of his many world trips. Puddle keeps receiving messages that Toot promises to be home by Christmas, but the days continue to tick on while Puddle does as many preparations as he can while waiting.

25 Days – Book 14: ABC Is For Christmas

ABC is for Christmas is our 14th book for the Christmas Book Advent journey. This is a Golden Book classic from 1974, written by Jane Werner Watson and illustrated beautifully by Sally Augustiny.

Seemingly a simple ABC Christmas book at first glance, this book is so much more! The text rhymes, the pictures are joyous and celebratory, and the style of the 70s shines in all its vintage glory.

25 Days – Book 13: The Legend Of The Candy Cane

The 13th book on this Christmas picture book journey is a Christian story, created by Lori Walburg and James Bernardin in 1997, called The Legend of the Candy Cane.

The story is set in the days of horses and farmers, and small prairie towns. A stranger comes to town and begins working on an abandoned building. The people all have different hopes of what he might be planning, and finally one girl can’t stand the suspense anymore and decides to help.
